ALEX LONG :: BIO

Alex is an Austin, Texas based professional photographer and tango aficionado.

The Argentine Tango seed was planted in 2001 when a close friend talked  frequently of ‘tango this’ and ‘tango that’. In the fall of 2004, wanting to take dance lessons of some sort, Alex called that friend to find out more.  He very soon became enamored, or very possibly fully addicted to this beautiful and elegant dance and art form.  Intrigued by the sensual and languid dance itself, as well as its rich, colorful history and culture, Alex has studied and researched every aspect of the dance.

Since 2004, he has studied intensively with a number of teachers [see listing below] and traveled to Buenos Aires in the spring of 2007 for master level classes with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne.  Alex takes the learning process seriously, and believes that even advanced dancers must continue to study and work in perfecting all facets of their dance. He also takes teaching seriously, and takes workshops to further enhance and develop his teaching expertise and knowledge.

He has been teaching tango since November of 2007 - primarily private lessons. He taught group lessons in early 2008 in Georgia, as well as special topics in milonga fundamentals. He also organized and taught two weekend workshops in Aspen, Colorado in the fall of 2008.

Alex ponders the mysteries of tango on a daily basis, recognizing the learning and growing process is without end. He writes about both the physical and metaphysical realms of tango, in his quest to actualize “The Perfection of the Perfect Connection”, at his blog alex.tango.fuego :: on life, tango and the universe.
